About the Author
Thomas Mesaglio is a researcher at the University of New South Wales at the Evolution & Ecology Research Centre, and has worked on projects involving citizen science, bushfire recovery, and marine forensics. He has been an avid beachcomber and naturalist his entire life, having grown up visiting the beaches and bush around North Haven. Thomas is a dedicated iNaturalist user; he is a curator and forum moderator on the platform, has uploaded over 53,000 observations, and has made over 304,000 identifications for other users.
